Job Description

Summary The Department of History and Political Science at Barry University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Political Science position, beginning in January 2026. The Department offers bachelor’s degrees in Political Science, International Studies, History, and Pre-law and is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Department of History and Political Science seeks applicants with a specialization in American Government and the ability to teach Methodology. The full-time Assistant Professor of Political Science will teach 12 credits per semester, advise department majors, and contribute to department activities and functions. Barry University emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused, undergraduate environment. This is a 9-month position with a start date of 1/1/2026 Essential Functions Applicants must demonstrate teaching effectiveness, be an active student advisor, engage in productive scholarship, and cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Additional duties include supporting the Pre-Law program through advising and teaching, professional service within the department, university, and community, and ongoing contributions to research and scholarship. Qualifications/Requirements Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Political Science; ABD will be considered. Preferred qualifications include previous college-level teaching experience with Pre-Law or Legal Studies; the ability to teach geography or US history is an asset. Excellent communication skills, evidence of mentoring undergraduate research, and wide interest in history, law, and global affairs are essential.
