PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS
Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

An Adjunct Faculty position in the fashion department involves teaching assigned courses, developing syllabi, instructional materials, lesson plans and in class activities as well as advising students on fashion topics. The faculty will work under the directions of the program director and department administration to ensure that the course is taught to meet departmental goals and student learning outcomes, as outlined by the department. The course content is required to meet the department and college goals and the industry standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Teaching:
Based on course description (as per Brenau’s course catalog), faculty will teach with course competencies in mind. Faculty will demonstrate in class the skills and concepts in order to teach the skills. Subsequently, faculty will allow students to work on the course project in class under their supervision. Faculty will establish a collaborative and experiential learning environment to enhance student learning.
Note:
Fashion Studio courses will be taught in the Fashion Lab where all necessary equipment will be available to students and faculty.
Curriculum Development:
Faculty will manage and update syllabi as they see fit, keeping course description and student learning outcomes in mind. Faculty will also be responsible to apprise course materials, assignments and projects.
Student Support:
Evaluating student performance and providing constructive feedback is vital to student learning. Faculty will ensure to grade weekly assignments on time so students are aware of their academic standing in class at all times. Faculty will provide assistance and remedial learning opportunities to students who need help in achieving course objectives.
Professional Development:
Faculty will maintain their subject matter expertise consistently to improve their teaching methods, discipline knowledge and proficiency in industry specific software & technology.
Creative Guidance:
Faculty will provide guidance in creative experimentation and gaining understanding of the creative process to express their design ideas effectively. For example, skills like draping, pattern making and garment construction techniques to problem solve design elements in apparel construction.
Studio Work:
This position entails working in a design studio environment with sewing and ironing equipment with potential noise and some lifting of fabric bolts, moving dress forms and sewing machines to organize the work space. Experience in the fashion industry is desired.
Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree in fashion design or a related field is typically required, with an MFA sometimes preferred.
Experience:
Demonstrated teaching experience in fashion design, including studio-based instruction, is often expected.
Portfolio:
A portfolio showcasing design work is usually required, and may include student work as well.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities required.
Work Hours:
Work hours are dependent on the classes being taught by the adjunct each semester. For Fall 2025, we are looking to fill two classes: FD 171 Apparel Construction (MW 3:30 pm – 6 pm) and FM 235 Dress, Society & Culture (MW 2:00pm – 3:15).
Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.
