August 15, 2024 The Department of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University at Alexandria invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position in Vertebrate Ecology to begin Fall 2024 or Spring 2025. Candidates at the assistant or associate professor level will be considered. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Vertebrate Ecology or Wildlife Biology with expertise in more than one vertebrate group. Applicants must be able to teach Field Biology Techniques (including capturing and handling vertebrate animals), Vertebrate Natural History, Principles of Wildlife Management, and Conservation Biology. The opportunity exists to develop additional upper-level classes in the candidate’s area of expertise. Willingness and ability to teach in the field are required, as is willingness to mentor field-based individual undergraduate research. Previous work experience outside academia, as well as expertise in areas such as natural resources management, GIS, and biostatistics, would be considered favorably.
Responsibilities:
Typical duties include but are not limited to: Develops and teaches courses as assigned Mentors undergraduate research for students in field biology concentration Acquires the appropriate state and federal permits for vertebrate animal work Maintains and enlarges the small vertebrate museum collection used for teaching Maintains and repairs field equipment Maintains high standards of instruction Regularly keeps office hours and is receptive to students both in person and electronically Offers quality academic advising to students Actively serves on university committees and participates in institutional meetings Assists with curriculum development Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor This position entails sixty percent teaching, twenty percent scholarly activities, and twenty percent community/university service.
