JOB DESCRIPTION
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Education beginning September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate (and potentially graduate) courses to pre-service teachers majoring in Education. Responsibilities will encompass course instruction and development, advising, engaging in campus and professional service, and fostering opportunities for pre-service teachers to learn and grow. We seek a dedicated professional with a passion for teaching and learning and working on a team. This tenure-track position is a full-time 9 month contract with benefits year-round. Qualified applicants should hold a terminal degree (PhD) or a Master’s degree with the understanding that a PhD will be required within 5 years of hire. Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the minimum salary for Assistant Professor is $62,222 commensurate with education and experience. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to): Deliver a minimum of four courses, or equivalent, per semester at both introductory and advanced levels, employing a blend of traditional modalities (competency-based, online, hyflex, and/ or in-person).
Serve as faculty advisor to EDU majors.
Collaborates with Director of Education and Education Program to prepare materials and processes for re-accreditation.
Participated in EDU student candidacy and exit interviews, program days, and other program- related activities as needed.
Attend Faculty Assembly meetings monthly.
Participate in EAB student success campaigns.
Maintain Brightspace courses.
Provide timely and effective feedback to students.
Assist in development, instruction, and administration of undergraduate courses and programs.
Develop initiatives that involve undergraduate students, potentially leading to internships, independent projects, or conference presentations/ publications as well as facilitate current EDU initiatives.
Actively contribute to the academic community through campus and professional service endeavors.
Collaborates with the Director of Education to assist in the generation of annual Chapter 114 reports and provides support regarding ETS reports/ Title II reports.
Collaborates with Director of Education and Education Program to prepare materials and processed for recertification.
Participates in EDU student candidates and exit interviews, program days, and other program-related activities as needed.
Assists with development and review of program-specific academic maps (Finish in 4).
Communicates with students to reinforce the student-faculty advisor relationship.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution with the understanding that a PhD will need to be completed within 5 years,
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to collaborate within the academic community and engage with external stakeholders,
Proficiency in utilizing innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning and experiences, including online instructions,
Collaborative skills and teamwork approach,
Teaching experience in public education (PreK-12),
Prior experience in higher education, and
Ability to travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Maine Teacher Certification.
7-10 years of teaching experience in public education (PreK-12).
Administrative experience in public education.
Experience with competency-based education.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring undergraduate students and fostering their professional development.
Experience in scholarly activities including publications, presentations, or grant writing.
