Mississippi Valley State University The Department of Natural Sciences and Environmental Health at Mississippi Valley State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology with a concentration in Botany. We seek a dynamic and dedicated individual committed to excellence in teaching, research, and student mentorship. Position Summary The successful candidate will primarily teach Plant Physiology, Cell Biology, Genetics as well as other biology courses such as General Biology, Survey of Biological Sciences, and additional specialized courses based on their expertise. Beyond teaching, the candidate is expected to engage in research that complements the department’s ongoing projects, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to student development. Responsibilities
Teach a variety of undergraduate biology courses, including Plant Physiology, Cell Biology and Genetics.
Develop and deliver engaging lectures, laboratory sessions, and assessments that promote student learning and success.
Conduct and actively participate in research aligned with departmental initiatives.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
Mentor and advise students on academic and career pathways.
Collaborate with colleagues to enhance research and instructional programs within the department.
Contribute to departmental service and fulfill administrative responsibilities as required. Required Qualifications A Ph.D. in Biology, Plant Biology or a closely related field.
Demonstrated teaching experience with a strong record of excellence in undergraduate instruction.
Active research engagement with a proven record of peer-reviewed publications.
Experience with grant writing
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
