Job Description

Job Duties:

This position will be supported by generous laboratory space, state salary support, and a competitive research start-up package. The Department has 19 full-time faculty, an active doctoral studies program, and state-of-the-art instrumentation. Onsite facilities include those for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, live animal imaging, laser capture microdissection, phosphor imaging, and electron microscopy. In addition, the Brody School of Medicine has a modern AAALAC -accredited animal care facility and a well-trained veterinary staff. ECU is located in Greenville, NC, a small city with a population of 90,000, approximately 80 miles east of Raleigh, and a short ride from the Crystal Coast beaches and the Outer Banks. The position will have a 12-month appointment term and will be a Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor, dependent upon the candidate’s academic qualifications. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, invites applications for a tenure-track or fixed-term faculty position at the level of Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor. This position is research intensive and is intended for an individual who will develop and maintain a federally funded, independent research program in the area of microbial pathogenesis or host-pathogen interactions. The candidate will have significant protected time to establish their research program and will be expected to participate in teaching medical, graduate students, and may support instruction with the School of Dental Medicine – SODM . Minimum Education/Experience:

PhD or MD in Microbiology/Immunology, a basic science field, or a related discipline. Must have teaching and research experience with a well-documented publication record. All degrees must be earned from appropriately accredited institutions.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a distinguished research and teaching facility of East Carolina University School of Medicine consisting of approximately 50 people. This department provides an academic base for teacher-scientists employed by the School of Medicine at East Carolina University in the disciplines of microbiology, immunology, molecular biology and other related disciplines. The department provides instruction to medical students and provides instruction, guidance, and research experience to Ph.D. and M.S. students seeking degrees in microbiology and immunology. The department also offers a postdoctoral research training program. The department supports an array of faculty directed research programs of which many are supported by extramural grants and/or contracts. The department provides service to the school, university, state, nation, and to the profession by activities of faculty members on committees, study sections, in professional organizations, as consultants, and through other activities.
