Criminal Justice The School of Education & Social Sciences at Barton College seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice Sciences with an anticipated start date in August 2025. Working closely with the Program Director and reporting directly to the Dean, this position will also serve as Director of Field Experience for the Criminology & Criminal Justice Sciences (CCJS) program. In addition to directing field placements and working with on-site supervisors, the Assistant Professor of CCJS will teach courses across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Essential Responsibilities Teach 18 (eighteen) credit hours annually at all levels of Criminology & Criminal Justice Sciences
Academic advising for declared-or intended-major students
Ongoing professional scholarship
Service to the School of Education & Social Sciences, the College campus, and local community
Demonstrated record of successful college-level teaching.
A generalist in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice Sciences who is qualified to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses is required. Special interests and experience in teaching other subjects compatible with the Criminology and Criminal Justice Sciences Program and the needs of the College will be considered during the candidate assessment process.
Ability to lead in-person, hybrid and online courses that foster deep student learning.
Candidates with teaching and scholarship in law enforcement, including forensic sciences, will be given additional consideration.
Ensure adherence with College policies and procedures. Desired Skills and Experience The College seeks a candidate with a background in teaching. Specific requirements noted below. A Ph.D. in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice Sciences who is qualified to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses is preferred.
A candidate who is ABD with expectation of a fully completed Ph.D. prior to the end of the first year of employment in Criminology and Criminal Justice Sciences is a minimum requirement to teach in the undergraduate program.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the broader educational and professional communities, including a variety of businesses and community-based organizations.
Demonstrated effectiveness working in a multi-cultural environment; and evidence of a strong commitment to the goals of higher education serving diverse populations desired.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to handle multiple priorities effectively in a high-volume environment.
Ability to maintain and grow field-experience site partnerships.
