Assistant Professor, High Medieval European History (tenure track)
Description:
The Department of History invites applications from scholars who specialize in High Medieval European History. Historians who work on any topical area in the field are encouraged to apply, as are scholars who study the connections between medieval Europe and other regions, such as the Mediterranean, Byzantium, North Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Review of files will begin on October 1, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement outlining the dissertation or book as well as other relevant projects, and one chapter- or article-length writing sample. At least three referees should be entered into the online system, which will automatically generate requests for their letters. For candidates who do not yet have a Ph.D., the recommendation of the principal advisor must include precise information on the present status of the dissertation and the likelihood of completion by summer 2026. Anticipated start date, September 1, 2026. We seek faculty members who will create a climate that embraces excellence, with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring that will enhance the work of the department and attract and retain a diverse student body.

Expected Salary Range:
$100,000 – $115,000 (9 month salary) The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
