Roane State Community College Job Summary Roane State Community College is seeking qualified applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in English. The successful candidate will teach a combination of English, Reading, and Humanities courses. Classes are taught at our Morgan County Branch Campus and surrounding campuses. Job Duties Plan and teach classes as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi. Assigned classes may include traditional face-to-face, dual enrollment (may require travel to area high school campuses), Middle College, two-way live video (Zoom), web based and synchronous formats.
Teach 15 course hours per semester and schedule a minimum of 15 office hours per week, including evenings, includes traveling to off-campus sites.
Provide service to the campus and students under the direction of the English Coordinator and the Dean of Humanities.
Serve on appropriate departmental and college-wide committees as assigned.
The ability to teach during the Summer or Winter Term may or may not be offered.
Engage in ongoing professional development through action-research projects, grant development, or conference participation.
Provide service to the college by being actively involved in the academic festival, college fairs, convocation, division and program meetings, and other assigned events.
Respond promptly to requests from the Dean’s office.
Collaborate with faculty, curriculum chair, and academic leadership about curricular and programmatic issues and needs.
Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques including the use of technology.
Travel to multiple campuses as assigned. (Essential) Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree or higher in English, Literature, Letters, or Creative Writing from a regionally accredited college or university or master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English, Literature, Letters, or Creative Writing. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience in a community college setting. Knowledge of the role and purpose of the community college in higher education. Willingness to work with diverse student populations who represent a wide range of age, ethnicity, and academic ability. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with students of all ages, and exhibit flexibility and collegiality.
Teaching experience in Freshman Composition, Literature or Learning Support Writing/Reading.
Experience with alternate delivery methods such as online, interactive, synchronous, and hybrid.
