Job Summary East Tennessee State University Department of Music seeks a talented flutist with a strong pedagogical background to fill a nine-month, tenure-track assistant professor position. The successful candidate will begin in August 2025 and will teach applied flute to undergraduate and graduate students, coach small chamber ensembles, teach pedagogy and literature courses, and teach methods courses in woodwind pedagogy to music education students. Other courses may be assigned based on departmental needs. The individual in this position will perform solo recitals, and collaborate with colleagues and guest artists; recruit and retain high-quality flute students; develop and maintain visibility in the state, region, and nation as a performer and clinician; maintain and expand relationships with private studios in the region; adjudicate and participate in state, regional, and national music organizations; cultivate positive alumni and community relationships; participate in university committee work, and perform other departmental duties as assigned by the chair. Though not required, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in the Department’s Pre-College program, providing applied lessons to elementary and secondary students.
