Department Information University Advancement Job Summary Columbus State University seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Director of Alumni Engagement. This role is responsible for cultivating lifelong relationships between the university and its alumni, with a clear focus on expanding alumni participation, deepening alumni affinity, and driving engagement at every level. The Director will lead efforts to increase alumni involvement through strategic outreach, targeted programming, and enhanced communication, while strengthening CSU’s alumni network both regionally and nationally. Key responsibilities include serving as the Executive Director of the Alumni Association, directing regional alumni initiatives, leading alumni volunteer councils, expanding young alumni and student-alumni programs, enhancing marketing and social media strategies, and delivering high-impact events that connect alumni to each other and to the institution. This role will oversee the daily operations of the Office of Alumni Engagement, supervise a professional staff, and work closely with University Advancement, the Office of the President, and university stakeholders to align alumni engagement with CSU’s strategic goals. The successful candidate will bring creativity, a strong understanding of relationship management, board management experience, and the ability to mobilize alumni as advocates, donors, and ambassadors. Responsibilities Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Drive Alumni Engagement Growth and Strategy

  • 25% Design and implement innovative strategies that increase alumni participation and strengthen affinity with Columbus State. Develop segmented engagement plans using alumni data, affinity groups, and career stages. Establish measurable goals and regularly assess engagement impact.; Oversee Daily Operations of the Alumni Engagement Office
  • 20% Manage departmental staff (coordinators and graduate assistants). Ensure high-quality program delivery and alignment with Advancement goals.; Lead Regional and National Outreach Initiatives
  • 15% Expand CSU’s regional alumni presence through events, networking programs, and club development. Identify and activate alumni champions in key markets to serve as local ambassadors.; Executive Management of the CSU Alumni Association
  • 15% Serve as Executive Director to the Alumni Association Board. Manage board and committee meetings, budgets, and volunteer leadership development. Support alumni affinity councils and committees under the CSU Alumni Association.; Oversee Signature Alumni Programs and Events
  • 10% Manage events that serve as high-impact engagement opportunities, such as Homecoming, First Thursdays, and athletic events. Partner with the Office of the President and Advancement for institutional events.; Lead Alumni Communication and Digital Engagement
  • 10% Oversee a comprehensive alumni communications plan across email, social media, website, and print. Share compelling alumni stories and university updates to build affinity and pride.; Strengthen Student-Alumni Connections
  • 5% Oversee the Presidential Envoys program and Student Alumni Association.

Support student-to-alumni transition initiatives, including mentoring and career networking.

Required Qualifications Required Qualifications include:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Education, Business Administration, or a related field.; A minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience is required (ten [10] years preferred) in alumni relations, alumni engagement, university advancement, career programming, public relations, or nonprofit leadership.; Demonstrated success managing staff and volunteers, planning events, and developing engagement strategies.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications include:

Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related discipline.; Experience with alumni databases (particularly Raisers Edge), segmentation strategies, and digital marketing tools.; Knowledge of higher education advancement best practices and emerging trends in alumni engagement.; Knowledge of non-profit board management practices and requirements. Proposed Salary The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $66,468

  • $73,278 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: Proven ability to lead strategic alumni engagement and grow alumni involvement over time.; Deep understanding of constituent engagement strategies and relationship-building.; Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.; Strong organizational and project management abilities.; Creative problem-solver with a results-driven mindset.; Experience in managing events, programs, and volunteer boards.; Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with constituent management systems (e.g., The Raiser’s Edge) strongly preferred.; Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as necessary.
