JOB DESCRIPTION

Dean College’s Dean R. Sanders ’47 School of Business is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Introduction to Communications in person during the Fall 2025 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. We are seeking an adjunct instructor for COM-121: Introduction to Communications. COM-121 is a 3-credit class that meets on campus for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Communications program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College. The course description is as follows: An introduction to the print, film broadcast, social and emerging media. An examination of the history, organization, current influence, and future trends stressing the educational, cultural, and influential powers exerted by the media. There is one COM-121 section available. It is scheduled to meet on campus Mondays 6:00pm-8:50pm, which includes two 10-minute breaks.

REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in communications or a related field is required; PhD in a related discipline is preferred.
Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first-year undergraduates is preferred.
Strong computer skills is required.
Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required.
Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required.
Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required.
Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
