POSITION

The Department of Sociology, Criminology, & Anthropology at the University of Central Arkansas is accepting applications for a Visiting Lecturer position in Criminology. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2025. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is needed to teach a range of courses that emphasize criminal law, legal processes, and the functioning of criminal courts. The position is also expected to teach at least one section of introductory criminal justice every semester. The course load for this position is four course sections per semester taught in-person, face-to-face, in a traditional classroom setting. The successful candidate should also be prepared to teach select sections in online, hybrid, or blended modes if needed. Other responsibilities include faculty meeting participation, supporting student organizations/mentoring, and compliance with all employee workplace training/monitoring requirements.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Candidates must possess broad-based knowledge of, and teaching experience in, the legal aspects of criminal justice in the United States. Candidates who have law degrees or some other form of practical legal experience are preferred. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience designing and delivering undergraduate courses in at least one of the following areas: introductory criminal justice, introductory criminal law, criminal prosecution, criminal evidence, and/or criminal courts. A commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching is paramount.

REQUIREMENTS

A J.D. with criminal law experience or a Masters in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related fields is the minimum education required for this position.
