Criminal Justice Inst. and is responsible for assisting the Managing Director with the management of the Institute, assumes all responsibilities of the Institute Director in the Director’s absence, supervises coordinators assigned to the Institute, and assists with the planning, development, coordination, implementation, and supervision of classes such as basic law enforcement, basic corrections, basic law enforcement auxiliary, agency in-service training, workshops and seminars.

Assists the Director with the supervision of the Valencia law enforcement coordinator and agency coordinators assigned to institute. Description of Job Function 2. Supervises the lead instructors of the high liability areas: defensive tactics, firearms, vehicle operations, and first aid. Description of Job Function 3. Attends quarterly FDLE training center directors’ meetings and regional training council meetings as directed by the Director. Description of Job Function 4. Attends internal and external meetings, conferences, etc. as a representative of the college and institute. Description of Job Function 5. Coordinates the quarterly CJI advisory board meetings and assists the Director with the maintenance of a current list of advisory members. Description of Job Function 6. Establishes and maintains liaison with training officers and key staff personnel of regional criminal justice agencies. Description of Job Function 7. Develop and maintain new and innovative training programs, schedules training and selects instructional personnel for the Night Academy and other classes as needed. Description of Job Function 8. Monitors instruction, completes instructor evaluations, and ensures completion of student evaluations. Description of Job Function 9. Ensures completion and timely submission of all required reports, documents, and forms to appropriate internal and external offices and agencies. Description of Job Function 10. Conducts periodic planning and training sessions with instructors. Description of Job Function 11. Assists instructors in the preparation of lesson plans and setting course goals and objectives. Description of Job Function 12. Oversees preparations and examinations for the Night Academy and other classes as needed. Description of Job Function 13. Coordinates CJI academy program orientations. Establishes and ensures all student and instructor files, records, and reports are in order and consistent with regulatory requirements. Description of Job Function 17. Ensures the availability of all equipment, supplies, and materials necessary to deliver the training curricula effectively. Description of Job Function 18. Ensures all assigned training programs are in compliance with Florida statutes and the rules and regulations, policies and procedures of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, the Central Florida Criminal Justice Institute, and Valencia Community College. Uses computer applications for program operations, designs and implements scenarios related to performance measurement studies and reports. Description of Job Function 21. Must possess valid Florida Driver’s License. Employee will be required to operate a college vehicle, including but not limited to on and between campuses and in the local community, in order to perform the essential job functions. Required Qualifications Required Minimum Education Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Required Field of Study Other Required Qualifications Required License/Certification Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education & Field of Study Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in criminal justice, education or a related field. Preferred Type of Experience Experience with a local, state or federal criminal justice agency and experience as a training coordinator or instructor in a criminal justice agency or educational institution. Experience in program or course design, managing training programs, curriculum development and design. Preferred Licenses/Certification Possesses or can obtain for a State of Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Instructor Certificate. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of training resources, laws which effect training, and rules of the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commissions. Excellent oral, written and listening skills. Working Conditions General Working Conditions This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds.
