Library-Media Specialist Position Summary:

The Library Media Specialist promotes literacy by supporting curriculum goals and nurturing a culture of learning within the school community. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university Professional teacher certificate in the area of responsibility by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date At least three years of successful P-12 teaching experience Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the school’s collection of books, periodicals, and digital resources to support curriculum needs Maintain a weekly plan for the media center, including detailed lesson plans Develop and maintain an organized, welcoming media center conducive to learning for students of all ages Collaborate with teachers to provide resources, instructional materials, and research assistance aligned with curriculum objectives Instruct students in media literacy, information literacy, and research skills to promote critical thinking and independent learning Promote reading and literacy through engaging programs, activities, and book recommendations Assist students and staff in utilizing information resources effectively, including digital formats Coordinate media center events such as author visits and book fairs to enrich the school community’s learning experience Manage the media center budget, selecting and purchasing materials within allocated funds Stay informed about copyright laws, intellectual property issues, and media center policies Enforce district policies regarding internet safety and technology security Maintain an inventory of all approved district devices, including computers, audiovisual equipment, etc. Provide technical support and assistance to employees and students with technology and district software platforms Performs other duties as assigned by the head football coach, school administrators, and/or district administrators

Ability to effectively present information to others and respond to students, parents, and staff. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities. Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor. Ability to be punctual and comply with a precise work schedule. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
