$81,044 – $106,802

Position Summary :

Assists in the supervision and evaluation of teachers and participates actively in the planning and development in assigned areas of responsibility.

Qualifications :

Current Alabama Teacher’s Certification, Master’s Degree or higher. Minimum of three (3) years experience as an English teacher.

Essential Duties :

Visits schools and observes classrooms on a regular basis to ensure consistency of what is taught from school to school and teacher to teacher and recommends effective instructional strategies. Models lessons in classroom situations for observation by teachers. Analyzes and interprets achievement data; and works with lead teachers/administrative staff to design activities to raise student achievement. Conducts in-service training for instructional staff regarding instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics under the direction of the Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction. Serves as a resource to the school’s administrative staff regarding instruction and the needs of students. Acts as liaison between teachers, school administrators, and the central administration or matters related to curriculum and instruction. Provides leadership in the development, implementation and revision of curriculum and curriculum guides. Conducts regular meetings with lead teachers to ensure curriculum alignment under the direction of the supervisor. Ensures that there are adequate materials, equipment, and supplies for the operation of the division’s instructional programs. Prepares necessary statistics and reports related to instructional activities at the assigned schools. Models non discriminatory practices in all activities. Assists with the selection of textbooks, and other instructional materials and equipment for the program. Other duties as assigned. Performance Metrics and Evaluation The performance of the School Improvement Specialist will be evaluated annually by the Executive Director or Superintendent’s designee based on key metrics that reflect instructional impact, collaboration, and strategic school support: 1. Instructional Support and Modeling Conduct at least 4 classroom observations and coaching sessions per month in assigned schools. Deliver a minimum of 10 modeled lessons annually, with evidence of follow-up coaching and teacher reflection. Maintain logs of visits and support activities, with 100% of assigned schools receiving regular documented support. 2. Professional Development and Capacity Building Facilitate or co-facilitate a minimum of 6 professional learning sessions per year focused on best practices, instructional strategies, and curriculum implementation. Achieve 85% or higher satisfaction scores on participant feedback surveys from training sessions. 3. Data Analysis and School Improvement Planning Collaborate with school leaders and instructional teams to review data and assist in developing and monitoring School Improvement Plans (SIPs). Track progress of SIP goals and interventions, with documented improvement in targeted student achievement metrics across supported schools. Prepare and submit quarterly progress summaries on instructional outcomes and trends based on walkthroughs and data reviews. 4. Curriculum Alignment and Resource Support Facilitate monthly curriculum alignment meetings with lead teachers or instructional staff to ensure vertical and horizontal consistency. Provide support in identifying instructional resource needs and assist in securing or recommending materials as needed, with 100% of supported schools having aligned curriculum materials. 5. Collaboration and Responsiveness Respond to school-based instructional support requests within 72 business hours, ensuring timely service and documentation. Maintain ongoing communication and coordination with building administrators, instructional coaches, and district academic leaders, with positive feedback from school teams. 6. Impact and Instructional Outcomes Demonstrate improvement in academic performance among targeted student groups in assigned schools, including closing achievement gaps in reading and math. Support schools in achieving at least 70% of targeted instructional improvement goals identified in school data reviews and SIPs.
