JOB DESCRIPTION
This position supports the instructional efforts of the Office of E-learning, Technology, and Communications in the College of Education by providing instructional design expertise in the development and support of instructional materials for online courses. The Instructional Designer will work with faculty and other design team members to adapt existing content and design new content for online learning. The Instructional Designer will review course materials in order to recommend quality learning experiences, effective assessment, grammatical accuracy, accessibility recommendations, functionality of course components, and ensure they meet UF+QM standards. In addition to these duties, the instructional designer will participate in the development and delivery of professional development activities relating to online learning and emerging technologies for faculty and staff of the College. This position is time-limited and soft-funded.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop high-quality distance education programs and courses for undergraduate students and working professionals by providing instructional design and course management system services and expertise to support online course development. This involves working with a variety of subject matter experts, visual designers and video producers, and technology specialists to develop effective education programs in a range of academic disciplines and in associated grants/projects. In addition, this position will advise College administrators and faculty as programs are expanded or added.
All higher education online courses will be required by the state of Florida to meet UF+QM Standards. This position will require the instructional designer, working with faculty and administrators, to assess and audit the instructional effectiveness of course materials and adherence to accessibility standards. Additionally, the ID will coordinate with the subject matter expert to remediate any standards not met within the online course.
Communicate and collaborate frequently and effectively with various stakeholders on courses, grants, and professional development. This communication includes staff, faculty, program managers, and any other entities critical to ensuring high-quality course or professional development.
Work with a variety of hardware and software to develop instructional materials; review and teach software applications to faculty authors as needed through a variety of methods, including workshops, one-on-one consultations, and web and print documentation. This role will pursue investigating innovative instructional software to improve learning outcomes.
Manage course development projects independently including: coordinating with stakeholders, establishing timelines and milestones, and providing periodic reports to supervisors
Promote current research-based best practices in distance learning and open education through research, collaboration and presentations to and with the faculty of the College.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
PREFERRED
Knowledge and experience working with higher education faculty to develop distance education programs and courses, implementing open source and proprietary applications, and in providing technology support to faculty and staff of varying technology skill levels
Comprehensive knowledge of distance and open education pedagogies and technologies, including accessibility and ADA compliance issues, and current instructional theories and principles applicable to web-based learning and web-based course management systems
Basic knowledge of web programming technologies such as HTML, XHTML, CSS, and web design software tools
Knowledge of video, audio, and graphic editing software such as Camtasia, iMovie, Audacity, Adobe Photoshop, Jing, GIMP, Quicktime and VLC
Knowledge of e-learning software such as Articulate Storyline and Articulate 360
Experience planning and implementing professional development activities for professional educators
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent course management and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively in an academic environment
Enterprising, proactive, and diplomatic at solving problems
Experience teaching online or blended courses for adult learners
