ACE:

Academic Success faculty team. The STEM Specialist position is responsible for teaching SLS courses focused on success in STEM as well as academic recovery. In addition to teaching, this position will work collaboratively with colleagues in the ACE Learning Studio and promote our services to campus partners, including faculty, encouraging collaboration for student engagement in STEM disciplines. Teach courses designed to enhance the academic success and retention of college students, including those who are pursuing STEM majors and/or facing academic difficulty and are at risk of dropping out or transferring. This includes but is not limited to developing and revising syllabi, activities, assignments, and Canvas materials. Recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate STEM Student Support Specialists who provide learning assistance and guidance to peers pursuing STEM degrees. Collaborate with colleagues in the ACE Learning Studio to enhance STEM-related support services and create academic initiatives. Update, generate, and expand digital content and print materials related to academic success strategies in STEM. Promote STEM tutoring with faculty and campus partners to increase student engagement in STEM disciplines. Maintain, compile, and report accurate data while also using data to inform best practices. Develop and deliver presentations for ACE workshops. Support initiatives aligned with ACE priorities, including serving on internal and external committees as needed. Offer one-on-one personal academic consultations. Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited institution in STEM, higher education, curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or discipline from an appropriate field of specialization. Preferred Qualifications Minimum two years of teaching experience at the college level, preferably with students in STEM disciplines and/or students experiencing academic difficulty. Experience developing instructional activities and materials. Knowledge of undergraduate student issues and challenges and/or best practices in academic interventions for retention. Passion for STEM student achievement and engagement inside and outside the classroom. Experience tutoring or working in higher education (a college learning center is a plus). Proven ability to connect with faculty, build relationships, and promote academic services. Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues. Strong presentation skills and ability to engage student audiences. Knowledge in topics such as self-regulated learning, metacognition, motivation, academic resilience, growth mindset, belonging, student development, and help-seeking behaviors.
