In-person Successful candidates will have a passion for working with teens and collaborating with a small adult team, experience with journalism, teaching, and training with a solid understanding of curriculum development using digital media, excellent attention to detail, as well as patience and flexibility. Candidates must also demonstrate a capability to work independently and proactively while exercising discretion and personal judgment in this role. Job Duties Skill-Building Curriculum Development and Delivery Design and work with teens, and guest teaching artists to deliver media education, and journalism skill-building curriculum to teenagers, fostering writing, reporting, editing, videography, podcasting, and multimedia skills on-site and in the community Update and lead the implementation of VOX Summer curriculum Oversee the Atlanta Teen Voices Journalism Fellowship program, providing ongoing education, mentoring, and guidance to youth journalists and content creators Develop a media literacy and fluency curriculum to integrate in VOX’s programming Lead the coordination and creation of engaging content for the VOX e-learning platform, including but not limited to courses, online virtual trainings, etc. Teen & Near Peer Engagement Provide editorial support to VOX Teen journalists, editors, and contributors for all voxatl.org digital and print content Participate, facilitate, and support teen facilitation of publishing meetings in collaboration with the journalism and publishing team Develop, and maintain contact with VOX ATL journalism-centric alumni Evaluation Collaborate with program staff to design and deliver mid-year, and end-of-year evaluations for all VOX ATL education programming Frequently incorporate media/journalism industry developments and teen feedback, ensuring continuous quality improvement Provide feedback and support to VOX Teens for journalism/media goals Ensure all program objectives and activities align with VOX ATL development deliverables and youth development quality standards Community Outreach Identify and recruit volunteers to support journalism initiatives at VOX ATL including but not limited to mentors, workshops, and event assistance Identify and secure guest faculty for skill-building workshops, and fellowship implementation. Coordinate their participation in workshops, seminars, or panel discussions Introduce and connect VOX teens to post-secondary opportunities including collegiate journalism programs, apprenticeships, and media career Partner with local organizations and businesses to secure journalism opportunities for VOX teens. Including arranging interviews, press conferences, and access to newsworthy events. Develop and oversee a mentorship program, pairing experienced content creators, journalists, and professionals with students to provide guidance Support external community workshops in collaboration with VOX ATL Adult staff Establish partnerships with media organizations, news outlets, and companies to create internship opportunities for

VOX Seniors Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, film, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong knowledge of media education, and journalism, including demonstrated writing, reporting, fact-checking and editing skills Ability to simplify complex and technical media information using interactive practices and techniques
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, including editing video, and audio content using Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition
  • Experience with WordPress or similar platforms
  • Experience with integrating journalistic storytelling using social media channels
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks and “switch gears” quickly
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed with excellent time-management skills, as well as comfortable working in a fun, youth-led team environment
  • Work early evenings and Saturdays, August – May
  • Experience facilitating activities with teens Highly Desired (Training will be provided):
  • Experience with at least one nonprofit organization (may be volunteer or work), preferably with youth/teens The Media Education Coordinator reports to VOX’s Program Director and works collaboratively with the VOX ATL adult staff team for day-to-day work.

All staff must be willing to work independently and as a team, and take initiative with new programs and challenges. Schedule & Compensation The Media Education Coordinator position works a full-time, in-office VOX program schedule, which includes evening hours Tuesday – Friday and daytime Saturday hours during the school year (summer hours are Monday – Friday). This is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Compensation :
