JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The Special Education Coordinator oversees and supports the development, implementation, and compliance of special education services across the district. This role collaborates with educators, families, and service providers to ensure individualized education plans (IEPs) are effectively designed and executed to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may be adjusted as needed to meet the evolving needs of the department and students served.

Instructional Leadership:

Coordinate all instructional aspects of curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities at the school level, in compliance with federal, state, and local Board of Education policies.

Compliance & Monitoring:

Participate in the supervision of special education services to ensure adherence to legal and instructional standards as well as federal, local, and state guidelines.

Record Accuracy:

Collaborate with school and central office personnel to maintain accurate student records aligned with all compliance requirements along with FTE knowledge.

Professional Growth & Development:

Promote ongoing learning through local school visits, in-service meetings, and coordinated professional learning sessions.

Training Facilitation:

Assist in organizing and delivering training for special education teachers, support staff, and administrators based on identified needs.

Strategic Planning:

Collaborate with leadership teams on strategic planning, goal setting, and data collection for continuous program improvement.

IEP Support:

Work closely with staff and administrators to ensure implementation of IEP goals and objectives that meet student needs.

Program Evaluation:

Support the evaluation of special education programs and offer data-informed recommendations for improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field Hold or eligible to hold a GaPSC teaching certificate in Special Education or related field Successful special education teaching experience Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and collaboration skills Strong knowledge of IDEA, IEPs, and instructional strategies Strong knowledge of federal and state guidelines for Special Education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree in special education or related field Hold or eligible to pursue GaPSC leadership certification Experience in a school or district level leadership position Experience leading professional learning for adult learners

EMPLOYMENT TERMS 220

Day Work Calendar Annual Salary based on credential level and years of experience in a similar role

Annual Salary Range:

$81,975 – $109,079 WORKING

CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in a standard in-person office and school setting, requiring travel between multiple schools and district offices. Regularly involves leading meetings, collaborating with administrators, educators, and support staff, as well as engaging with parents and community stakeholders. May require occasional lifting of materials or equipment. Requires proficiency in using district technology, including communication platforms, data management systems, and learning management systems. Standard work hours align with the school day and district office hours, but may require attendance at evening or weekend meetings, school events, or professional development sessions. Must be flexible and adaptable to varying schedules and demands across the district.
