JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION
Elementary Literacy Coach .5 MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid teaching license; reading specialist certification or literacy endorsement preferred Minimum of 5 years successful elementary classroom teaching experience Proven expertise in literacy instruction and curriculum Experience in coaching educators or leading professional learning Strong knowledge of assessment and data-based instructional decision-making Familiarity with MTSS, culturally responsive pedagogy, and SEL frameworks Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills Any of these qualifications may be waived at the discretion of the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Improvement & Coaching Facilitates the improvement of instructional practice and student learning across all elementary grade levels. Facilitates improvement in instruction and student learning, with a specific focus on supporting staff during the pilot of new literacy instructional materials and practices. Observes instruction, reviews student work and assessment data, and collaborates with educators to apply research-based, effective teaching strategies. Coaches educators to develop and refine instructional strategies that improve student achievement and classroom engagement. Differentiation & Assessment Provides professional development and modeling of differentiated instruction and assessment strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. Supports teachers in using assessment tools to inform instruction and monitor progress. Curriculum Leadership & Literacy Pilot Coordinates the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment and revision of curriculum in collaboration with building and district leadership. Plays a lead role in supporting the implementation and reflection process of the district’s literacy pilot , including material usage, instructional alignment, and data review. Data-Driven Practice Collaborates with educators to design, implement, and interpret both quantitative and qualitative assessments to improve instruction. Uses student data to inform coaching conversations, instructional planning, and progress monitoring. Professional Learning Design Creates a climate of trust and critical reflection to engage educators in meaningful conversations about instruction and student outcomes. Collaborates with staff to plan and facilitate professional learning that is job-embedded, sustained, and aligned with standards and student needs. Identifies and leverages appropriate technologies to support collaborative planning and differentiated professional development. Leadership in Equity, SEL, and Innovation Implements targeted professional learning opportunities focused on improving educator effectiveness and increasing student achievement. Supports the implementation of research-based social-emotional learning frameworks (e.g., RULER or similar programs). Stays current on best practices and emerging trends in literacy education, instructional coaching, and social-emotional learning.
