Glenn Street, Caribou, ME 04736 Job Summary The Curriculum Coordinator provides district-wide leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of PreK-12 curriculum and instructional programs. This role oversees state and federal programs, staff development, textbook/resource selection, testing coordination, and compliance with educational laws and policies. The position also supervises specialized instructional staff, supports school improvement initiatives aligned with the Strategic Plan, and serves as the superintendent’s designee when needed. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on curriculum, supervision, or administration, is eligible for Maine certification (Assistant Superintendent 015), and brings experience in teaching, educational leadership, and curriculum development. Duties Guide the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum and instructional services and coordinate all curriculum Pre K – 12 Direct or coordinate special projects affecting the schools as assigned by the Superintendent or School Committee. Coordinate State and Federal programs. Keep abreast of changes in State and Federal laws, regulations, and guidelines, and develop policies to guide local implementation. Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction and provide leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the school department’s educational program. Provide leadership in the selection of textbooks / instructional resources for the school department. Observe teachers in their classrooms and offer insights for the enhancement of instruction. Assume a leadership role in all school department staff development programs. Guide the continuous update of curriculum and communicate the approved curriculum to the professional staff. Coordinate district-wide testing programs and utilize the results to guide improvement. Act as liaison with families participating in home schooling. Keep district staff, parents and community members informed about RSU 39. Attend meetings as directed by the superintendent. Network with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional and national levels. Support grant applications and oversee their development. Serve as the district’s affirmative action / harassment officer. Lead system-wide school improvement as outlined in the district’s Strategic Plan. Select, lead and evaluate district Teacher Leaders. Support and supervise Gifted and Talented staff. Support and supervise Multiple Language Learner staff. Review applications and interview all substitute applicants. Liaison with families participating in home schooling. Serve as executive head of the school system during the absences of the superintendent. Keep the superintendent informed of all activities in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities. Perform such other duties in the field of education as the superintendent shall assign. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Education with major coursework in curriculum, educational supervision, and/or educational administration Hold or be eligible for State of Maine Certificate – Assistant Superintendent 015 Three years successful experience as a classroom teacher Two years successful administrative experience Strong knowledge of Maine’s Learning Results Practical experience in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate or acceptable
