LOCATION

Primarily stationed at the African American Military History Museum; but work requires travel to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission facilities. These include the Lake Terrace Convention Center, Hattiesburg Visitor’s Center, Saenger Theater, The Pocket Museum, Eureka School Museum, Smith Drug Co., Oseola McCarty House Museum, the Hattiesburg Zoo and Serengeti Springs at the Hattiesburg Zoo.

SHIFT:

40 hours per week- some nights, weekends, and holidays will be required.

Director of Museums SUMMARY:

The Sixth Street Museum District Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs and initiatives that support the museum’s mission and engage visitors of all ages. The role involves planning and executing various educational activities, such as workshops, tours, and school programs, to enhance learning experiences and foster public engagement with museum exhibits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in and conducts daily opening/closing procedures and operational needs. Develop and manage in-museums educational content and programs aligned with museum goals. Coordinate and lead educational events, including school field trips, lectures, and special workshops. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers with an education-based focus. Collaborate with other departments to integrate educational elements into museum exhibits. Evaluate and improve programs through feedback from participants. Oversee public outreach and community engagement initiatives related to education. Works closely with the Sixth Street Museum District Administrative team on special projects as needed. Establishes and maintains superior relationships with schools, youth organizations, and community members. Provides regular updates to Director of Museum on progress of educational programming and special events. Researches and designs self- and guided tour content Creates pre- and post-visit materials for teachers Develops hands-on learning activities related to exhibitions Participates in the design of summer camp and after-school program content, as well as participating in the conduct of summer camp Develops student worksheets and activity guides for exhibitions

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Museum Studies, Education, and/or related field. Two years’ experience in developing educational content preferred. Must have at least two years of related experience.

Essential Job Qualifications:

Must retain a valid Driver’s License and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business. Experience in customer service or visitor engagement roles. Must have problem-solving abilities and operational understanding. Previous supervisory experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Capability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as with a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Plan and organize large number of concurrent details. Communicate effectively by oral and written methods. Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with museum partners. Work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
