JOB GOAL

To enhance student achievement by building the capacity of school staff to implement high-quality, data-informed instructional practices across all tiers of support. The Tiered Instructional Support Specialist will provide coaching, professional development, and implementation support to ensure that all students receive effective core instruction, targeted interventions, and individualized support. This role emphasizes the use of data-based problem solving and assessment practices to guide instructional decision-making, monitor student progress, and align implementation with district frameworks and priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

Current North Carolina Teaching License.
Minimum of three years teaching experience.
Master’s Degree preferred.
Strong instructional background with the ability to critically think, problem solve using multiple data sources, raise teachers’ consciousness and skillfulness around effective instruction, and design and deliver Professional Development.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
Considerable knowledge of best practices to facilitate adult learning.
Proficient in software applications (Microsoft Office, Google Apps. etc).
Knowledge of current research and national trends on MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work to develop, implement, and sustain the MTSS framework.
Partner with school leadership teams, instructional coaches, and teachers to implement and refine tiered instructional practices.
Assist schools in developing sustainable tiered support systems through effective scheduling, resource allocation, and team structures.
Provide job-embedded coaching focused on strengthening core instruction (Tier 1) and integrating evidence-based interventions at Tier 2 and Tier 3.
Support the development and facilitation of problem-solving teams to analyze data and match instruction/interventions to student needs.
Support schools in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting academic data to inform instruction and intervention decisions.
Provide training on effective universal screening, progress monitoring, and intervention fidelity.
Promote use of progress monitoring tools and data protocols to ensure student growth and responsive instruction.
Design and deliver professional learning aligned with best practices in instruction, intervention, and data use.
Participate in cross-departmental planning to integrate tiered supports with curriculum, assessment, and student services.
Stay abreast of changes relating to improving student outcomes and best practices in intervention by attending professional meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms. Must be able to present to groups with clarity, confidence, and professional presence.
Must be able to organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
