General Definition of Work The exceptional children facilitator, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion implementing a differentiated curriculum with supportive learning activities as well as working with classroom teachers through collaboration, coaching, and professional development. The duties of this position are a combination of compliance and instruction with an emphasis on supporting exceptional children (EC) and general education teachers. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Adhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students Collaborate to ensure effective implementation of current curriculum and initiatives through subject matter expertise and providing support Model and demonstrate best practices in EC education; coach teachers and share new strategies Design differentiated curriculum and supportive learning activities for use by classroom teachers Support teachers in utilizing assessment results and research to plan instruction Plan instructional strategies for students based on EOG results ranging from accelerated to intensive intervention Identify EC students and coordinate individual or group instructional activities Lead and facilitate on-site professional development activities in EC education and other instructional areas Oversee all required EC compliance paperwork Collaborate with school staff and departments to improve student performance Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning Participate in professional development and other meetings, such as those related to compliance Perform safety functions/drills to maintain a safe instructional environment.
