Permanent, 10 Month Position Nature of Work The Instructional Coach at Daniels Learning Center is a key member of the school’s leadership and support team. The coach works collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and administration to strengthen instructional practices that meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students in a non-traditional setting. The ideal candidate demonstrates expertise in differentiated instruction, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive teaching while building teacher capacity through coaching, modeling, and professional development. Qualifications and Licensure Must hold, or be working toward, an applicable North Carolina (NC) Standard Professional Educator’s License. Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience Master’s degree in administration, education, curriculum & instruction, or related field preferred Demonstrated success working with at-risk youth or students with mental health and behavioral challenges Teachers who hold an out-of-state license must apply for a license with the NC Department of Public Instruction. Experience successfully working with teachers. Prior evidence of success in supporting student learning in secondary reading, math, science, and social studies through coaching teachers. Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with teachers to plan, implement, and refine high-quality instruction tailored to the needs of students with behavioral, emotional, and academic challenges. Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback aligned to best practices, instructional frameworks, and schoolwide goals. Model effective instructional strategies, co-teach lessons, and provide real-time coaching and debriefing. Support implementation of academic interventions, blended learning, and mastery-based pacing appropriate for the alternative setting. Maintain ongoing and frequent assistance to teachers in lesson planning, critical thinking, and problem solving, and keep up to date with the most innovative approaches Maintain schedule and paperwork consistently, appropriately, and promptly. Plan and facilitate ongoing, differentiated professional development sessions that address instructional priorities, student engagement, behavior strategies, and equity. Provide one-on-one and small-group coaching cycles focused on teacher growth areas, student achievement data, and school improvement goals. Follows district guidelines, regulations, and best practices to ensure a safe and age-appropriate environment that promotes learning. Maintains student confidentiality. Integrates research into the design of best practice. Identifies and selects different instructional resources, materials, and methods to meet students’ varying needs with fidelity. Uses relevant technology to support instruction. Performs certain pastoral duties, including student support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing student encouragement. Participates in department and school meetings as well as parent meetings. Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs. Follows policies, procedures, standards, and rules in accordance with federal and state laws, which include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation, and submitting required documents and forms by established timelines. Serve as the school testing coordinator Performs other duties or tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Physical Requirements (if applicable) This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and lifting. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and operating machines. Special Requirements (if applicable) Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards. Must demonstrate leadership. Must establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. Must work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students by improving communication and collaboration between the school and the home and community. Must uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct.
