Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced teacher leader to serve as a Literacy Instructional Coach for the 9th grade academy. This role combines deep expertise in special education, instructional coaching, and instructional leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inclusive education, curriculum implementation, and staff development, with a proven track record of advocating for students with disabilities and leading school-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership:
- Lead and mentor instructional staff in implementing best practices for diverse learners, including SWDs and ELLs.
- Craft and facilitate weekly professional development sessions aligned with district and school improvement goals (SCEP).
- Support curriculum alignment, pacing, and scaffolding across program models and content areas.
- Analyze and utilize student formative and summative assessment data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
- Provide insight, direction, and strategies for co-teaching classroom models.
Special Education Leadership:
- Support instruction in self-contained and Integrated Co-Teaching (ICOT) settings and Regents coursework.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams in implementing IEPs and
MTSS/RTI
strategies for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students with fidelity.
Administrative & Program Leadership:
- Collaborate and plan 9th grade instructional operations in conjunction with other instructional coaches and grade level team, including home school assistant, social worker, counselor, and community agency partnerships.
- Spearhead schoolwide initiatives including Project-Based Learning, student voice programs (Mikva Challenge), student portfolios, tutoring schedules, and modified scheduling.
- Lead school events such as awards, test prep initiatives, parent university, freshman orientation, and field trips.
- Actively participate in school-based planning, building committees, and extended learning programs with the ability to present and analyze data for all stakeholders.
Community Engagement:
- Facilitate parent meetings with community organizations to strengthen home-school connections.
- Develop and sustain partnerships that enhance student support services and family engagement.
- Support positive functions and communications for increased parent involvement.
Qualifications:
Preferred NYS Certifications:
o Students with Disabilities, which includes grade 9
o Literacy, which includes grade 9
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in urban education, including teaching, coaching, and leadership roles.
- Demonstrated ability to design, lead, and monitor professional development and implement school-wide initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience mentoring new teachers and leading teams
- Familiarity with Mikva Challenge, Project-Based Learning, and alternative discipline frameworks.
- Proficiency in data analysis and strategic instructional planning.
