Instructional Coach Location:
Elementary Level Bellefonte Area School District is accepting applications for the postion of Instructional Coach.
SUMMARY:
Instructional coaching is a proven, job-embedded professional development strategy whereby a highly skilled educator works with other educators in a collegial and collaborative manner to raise instructional practice. This personalized, on-going, classroom-based approach fosters teacher growth and provides consistent support as teachers work to improve their knowledge, skills, and techniques within a culture of collective responsibility for student achievement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To provide job-embedded, ongoing professional development for professional educators in research-based instructional practices in order to build capacity in our teachers, improve the quality of instruction, and raise the level of student achievement.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, building administrators, professional educators, and others in the implementation of action plans aligned to the district’s strategic plan, induction plan, professional education plan, and technology plan. Assists with coordinating and delivering professional learning opportunities for staff, ensuring that a variety of models are used. Builds professional, collaborative, and confidential relationships with professional staff that supports the coaches ability to serve the district in his/her role. (Exceptions to confidentiality include imminent physical or psychological danger to the students). Serves as a resource to help professional staff locate information, materials, examples of research-based practices, and assessments. Helps professional staff implement effective instructional strategies that respond to diverse learners’ needs. Provides support, mentoring, and assistance to professional educators in the implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies. Works with professional staff (individually or in groups) to refine their knowledge and skills and to develop lesson plans and activities involving use of research based instructional strategies and/or instructional technology (through in-class coaching, peer observing, reflection and conversation, modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching). Observes instruction and provides feedback as support for teachers as requested by teachers. Facilitates conversations with professional staff and administrators to analyze many types of data, to identify schoolwide and grade-level trends, to discuss the implications for instruction. Organizes and disseminates instructional information/resources to assigned staff members. Encourages professional staff to analyze what is working and what is not working, challenges the status quo, and introduces new ideas. Stays informed with regard to research-based instructional strategies for possible district application, stays current in coaching strategies, and models continuous learning as an adult learner. Coordinates with other district specialists (i.e. fellow coaches, reading specialist, technology specialist) to provide a seamless approach with instructional and curricular initiatives. Advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher with no intent to supervise or evaluate. Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent/Director of Curriculum and Instruction in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Preparation:
Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree, Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in any content/subject area that spans K-12.
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Technology, or Educational Leadership and/or Coaching Endorsement.
Experience:
Seven years of satisfactory classroom teaching experience demonstrating strong research-based instructional practices and exemplary use of instructional technology. OTHER SKILLS and

Track record or evidence of improving student achievement in his/her classroom(s). Demonstrated knowledge and use of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies. Demonstrated skill in analyzing and using data for instructional decision making. Interpersonal, problem solving, communication, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development. Ability to design and/or broker (individually or in collaboration with others) high quality professional development for teachers and school staff. Knowledge of equity issues in current education reform. Familiarity with the PA Core standards, anchors, eligible content, and Pennyslvania’s Standards Aligned System (SAS). Proficiency using computer hardware, software, and web-based applications to deliver standards-aligned instruction. Good moral character.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate to school administration, colleagues, students, parents, and the general public.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate Must possess all required background clearances.

Typical office environment with ability to sit 80% of the work day or classroom environment with ability to stand for extended periods of time.
