Job Description

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Healthcare Skills and Simulation Technician supports the daily operations of the simulation center and plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, immersive training experiences for medical residents and faculty. This position will play a crucial role in enhancing the learning experiences for residents through the effective use of simulation technologies and methodologies. This person will work collaboratively with faculty to ensure program resident learning objectives are met. Key responsibilities encompass simulation operations to ensure the adoption of simulation best practices to establish and sustain a safe learning environment that fosters active learning and reflective thinking. Essential Job Functions Collaborates with faculty in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation scenarios, educational tools, and cases to support resident learning and assess competency. Provides technical and instructional support before and during simulation sessions, including room setup, equipment configuration, manikin programming, dry-runs, and scenario adjustments. Operates, monitors, and maintains high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, and audiovisual systems to ensure seamless simulation experiences; troubleshoots technical issues in real time as needed. Conducts monthly maintenance of simulation equipment, performs minor manikin repairs, and oversees biomedical checks of clinical equipment such as IV pumps and defibrillators. Manages audiovisual recordings of simulation sessions, including playback functionality; maintains data confidentiality and adheres to institutional policies regarding video storage and destruction. Assists faculty with the eLearning platform, supporting the upload of simulation assignments, pre-simulation preparation, and post-session evaluations. Supports residents in identifying individual learning needs and fosters a professional, inclusive simulation environment that encourages reflection and active engagement. Recommends the purchase of new simulation equipment and educational technologies; liaises with vendors and manufacturers regarding simulator support and updates. Provides training and ongoing support to faculty and staff on simulation equipment use, scenario development, and best practices in simulation-based education. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with institutional stakeholders to ensure the consistency and quality of simulation programming across departments. Promotes national best practices in simulation education and supports the delivery of standardized instruction across simulation sessions. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the operational goals of the simulation center and graduate medical education programs. Work Experience Two years experience working in a healthcare simulation center or clinical environment. Aptitude or familiarity with skills training devices and simulators. Knowledge of adult learning principles and simulation-based instructional design. Manufacturer certifications or technical training related to simulation equipment.
