Credentials:

Must have a current Tennessee teaching license in Special Education and successful classroom experience. Advanced degree required. Candidates must have specialized training and experience with the implementation of effective special education interventions.

Essential Job Functions:

Under the direction of the Special Education Director and daily guidance of the building principals, the Special Education B.E.S.T. Coordinator will oversee the management of B.E.S.T. classrooms within their assigned schools. The primary role of the B.E.S.T. Coordinator is to support professional development, assist in planning, facilitate IEP meetings, and collaborate with staff, administration, district personnel, school counselors, social workers, and other support staff. This collaboration will focus on strategies and techniques to encourage positive behavior and social growth in students. The coordinator will also function as the liaison between school administrators, staff, and the process of entering the B.E.S.T. classroom. Demonstrate collaborative, intentional, and purposeful leadership. Oversee the daily operations of classrooms, ensuring teachers and staff have the necessary resources and support to create an effective learning environment. Ensure schedules are followed and classrooms are structured to promote productivity and learning. Offer continuous, job-embedded professional development opportunities. Exhibit effective behavioral strategies in practice. Monitor students’ academic and behavioral progress, collaborating with educators to develop and implement individualized strategies to address each student’s needs. Intervene as necessary to ensure students receive appropriate support, working closely with Special Education Specialists, Behavior Specialist, Guidance Counselor, Social Workers, and external agencies to support both students and teachers effectively. Ensure the BEST program adheres to all relevant educational laws and regulations. Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of student progress, IEP meetings, behavioral interventions, and other program-related activities. Support teachers in implementing Behavior Improvement Plans, safety plans, and other individualized behavior strategies for students. Assist teachers with maintaining a disciplined and orderly classroom with a climate, which welcomes students and encourages learning. Assist with gathering data gathering assessments, which will guide instruction to support progress in specific areas of deficit. Lead discussions with staff members, parents, and any to her IEP team members, regarding the explanation of data. Function as the LEA representative for IEP meetings related to the B.E.S.T. program. Set clear goals and strategies focused on student growth, regularly monitoring and adjusting progress to ensure continuous academic improvement. Collaborate with the principal, mentors, and district team to recruit, support, and develop effective educators, using student and educator outcomes as evidence. Function as the primary contact for school administrators regarding potential student placements in the BEST program. Cultivate positive relationships with schools to facilitate referrals and ensure smooth transitions for students. Provide constructive feedback to teachers and staff regarding implementation challenges. Ensure adherence to program standards and best practices to maintain high program effectiveness.
