Job Description
Dance Instructor (#302) 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 896 Main Street, Willimantic, CT 06226 EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) , is seeking a passionate and dedicated Dance Instructor to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire and train students in a variety of dance styles while fostering creativity, discipline, and artistic expression. This role involves teaching both technique and history, choreographing performances, and preparing students for college programs and professional careers in the arts.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver high-quality instruction in multiple dance genres (e.g., ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and cultural dance forms) Create a safe, inclusive, and dynamic classroom environment that supports all learners Design and implement lesson plans aligned with state standards and the school’s performing arts curriculum Prepare students for performances, showcases, and external competitions or adjudications Choreograph original pieces for school concerts, recitals, and interdisciplinary productions Provide individualized feedback and mentorship to support each student’s growth and artistic development Collaborate with faculty across disciplines for integrated projects and productions Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and school leadership Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, or related field Demonstrated experience teaching dance to high school students or in a pre-professional training program Strong foundation in dance technique and pedagogy Ability to choreograph for various skill levels and styles
Preferred:
Master’s degree (MFA, M.Ed., or equivalent) Certification in Dance Education or state teaching licensure Experience in arts integration or cross-disciplinary collaboration
