Classes meet weekly (specific days/times to be discussed)
Qualifications:
Extensive experience in West African dance Background in teaching high school students in a conservatory-style or pre-professional arts environment Ability to incorporate the history and cultural context of West African dance into the curriculum Strong classroom management and choreography skills
Responsibilities:
Teach technique, movement, and cultural history of West African dance Prepare students to perform a final choreographed piece as part of their class project Collaborate with faculty and participate in departmental planning as needed ECA is nestled in the heart of New Haven’s Audubon Arts District and since 1973 has been a leader in fostering the education of emerging artists as they develop their unique voices. High school students from more than 28 school districts statewide attend ECA in the afternoon to study creative writing, dance, music, theatre and visual arts with professional artists. ECA is committed to providing high school students with the experience of studying the fine arts with practicing professional artists, stimulating a life-long curiosity for learning and a passion for the arts.
