Job Description
Dance Teacher (Part-time) 4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars Amherst, MA The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District is currently seeking highly-qualified candidates for the position of part-time Dance Teacher for Amherst Regional Schools, grades 9-12. This is a 0.7 FTE position. We seek candidates with experience engaging, inspiring, and educating a diverse student body. This diversity includes racial, religious, economic, ability, identity, and prior experience with dance. Candidates must possess a working knowledge of different methodologies to support the success of all students. All candidates must hold a graduate degree in Education, at least 12 credits of college-level dance, and a Massachusetts Teacher License in the subject of dance for grades 9-12. To maintain the established quality of the dance program, the candidate must be able to: ~ Collaborate with other members of the performing arts department ~ Maintain working relationships with the Five College Dance Department and local dance studios ~ Produce high-quality performances for a variety of venues ~ Provide curricular and extra-curricular experiences of dance through field trips, master classes with guest artists, and viewing and critiquing dance in videos and/or live streaming ~ Develop the school’s dance program through the lenses of community-building, equity, and access for all students ~ Differentiated teaching to meet every student’s needs ~ Foster a sense of community that is all-inclusive
Existing Courses:
Introduction to Dance
- an introduction to basic positions, steps, alignment, history, and terminology in a variety of dance styles/traditions. Introduction to Hip Hop Dance
- students build skills and technique in the street dance styles of Hip Hop, House, Locking, and more. Dance Theatre Ensemble
- students learn how to create their original choreography, teach it to ensemble-mates, and set it before live audiences. Conjunto de Bomba
- Afro-Puerto Rican traditional music and dance that includes drumming, singing, dancing, performing, and teaching a wide variety of audiences. Unified Performing Arts
- In this inclusion-centered class, students in both the General Education and Pathways to Independence programs will have the opportunity to try out a variety of performing arts in a low-pressure environment.
