K-8 Dance Instructor Community School of Digital and Visual Arts 1955 West Cornwallis Road, Durham, NC 27705 Are you passionate about dance and love working with children? If so, we are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Dance Teacher to join our K-8 arts team. Our school is known for its diverse and inclusive community, and we offer a variety of arts programs to promote creativity, self-expression, and confidence in our students.
Position Summary:
As a Dance Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching dance to students in grades K-8. You will create a supportive and engaging environment that fosters learning and growth. This position requires a strong background in dance techniques and an ability to effectively communicate and inspire children.
Responsibilities:
Develop lesson plans that align with grade-level standards, school’s curriculum, and the dance program’s goals Teach basic and intermediate dance techniques along with building strong movement foundations Provide clear and constructive feedback to students to help them improve their technique and performance Choreograph age-appropriate dances and performances for school-wide events Integrate broader cultural understanding and appreciation into the dance curriculum Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate dance curriculum into other subject areas such as science, social studies, English. Prepare students for school dance productions or external competitions Keep records of student’s progress and attendance, and report to the school administration Attend faculty meetings and participate in school-wide professional development opportunities Follow and enforce school policies and procedures
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance or relevant subject area (Master’s Degree Preferred) At least 2 years of experience as a dance teacher or choreographer Experience working with children in a school setting Strong knowledge and proficiency in multiple dance genres. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills Ability to motivate and inspire children of different backgrounds and learning styles Positive and energetic personality with a passion for teaching Strong organizational and time management abilities Availability to work regular school hours and participate in after-school events Willingness to contribute to the K-8 school’s programs outside of dance.
