Job Summary The Tai Chi Instructor guides students through this ancient form of Chinese martial arts with slow, controlled movements that improve balance, coordination, and mind-body awareness. Key Responsibilities and Expectations Teach 45 minute small group Tai Chi classes to special needs teens and their partners (ie. parent/sibling/caregiver) Adapt sequences and provide modifications for people with pain, injuries, or physical limitations Demonstrate proper body mechanics and alignment during poses Create a calm, welcoming environment that encourages consistency and inner connection Help build class attendance by connecting with clients, inviting new ones, and following up after class Ensure the safety of participants by monitoring their movements and providing guidance Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Skills, Education and Experience Group fitness Tai Chi instructor training and certification Patience and empathy to work with individuals of different ages, abilities, backgrounds, and fitness levels Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association (a plus) Experience working with special needs population (ideally adults & youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder) Physical Requirements Physically perform all skills required of a Tai Chi Instructor. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Frequent bending & standing.
