POSITION TITLE

Adjunct Teacher, Middle School Dance

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Dance Department at Pittsburgh

CAPA 6-12

is seeking a modern dance adjunct faculty member to begin at the start of the 2024-2025 school year to work 15 hours a week at a competitive hourly rate with no benefits. Candidate will work with students ranging from grades 6-8 as well as collaborate with the faculty on department wide daily technique classes, departmental projects, choreography, student showcases, 8 th grade jury preparation and yearly auditions and departmental fundraising. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching all styles of dance, a BA or BFA in dance alongside performance and career experience. Applicants will inspire and bring enthusiasm to students from a wide range of backgrounds and instill a positive attitude towards dance for all. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teaching dance technique classes five days a week alongside choreographing for all upcoming performances.
• Teaching one Dance Academic Course based on grade level.
• Assisting students with the creation of rich and diverse choreography as well as ways to prepare students for the High School Dance Department.
• Collaborate with team on scheduling, performances, masterclasses, and fundraising.
• Regular communication with students, parents and other CAPA Dance Department staff to artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

BA / BFA in Dance or Pedagogy Practices

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

• Professional Performance Experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Teaching experience with diverse audiences—middle school, high school, university and /or community settings
• Excellent oral and communication skills
• Collaborative and creative team player
• Collaborative work with community arts organizations
