Director of Student Development 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 2601 Gentilly Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70122 Under the administrative direction of the Dean of Students, the Director of Student Development serves as a key leader in creating a vibrant and inclusive campus community that fosters student growth, engagement, and well-being. This role focuses on developing and implementing programs, initiatives, and policies that promote a sense of belonging, social connectedness, and responsible citizenship among students. The Director will manage student advocacy, case management, and support; student conduct, accountability, and community standards; and accessibility and accommodations. The Director combines strategic vision with data-driven decision-making to ensure the effectiveness and impact of Student Development efforts. This position requires a dynamic and innovative leader who is enthusiastic about student development and community building. Student Development and Programming Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for building a strong sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. Plan, coordinate, and oversee a diverse range of programs, events, and activities that promote social interaction, cultural exchange, mutual support and student wellbeing. Collaborate with student affairs staff, student organizations, and campus partners to facilitate inclusive programming that reflects the interests and needs of the diverse student body. Student Conduct and Community Standards Oversee the student conduct process, ensuring fairness, consistency, and educational outcomes in addressing student misconduct. and by initiating appropriate actions to address behaviors that violate the Student Code of Conduct. Enforce campus policies and procedures related to student behavior and community standards. Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation processes to address interpersonal conflicts and promote positive relationships within the campus community. Responsible for campus-wide training and education for student conduct and works closely on health and safety concerns of campus students. Develops and maintains student discipline records. Generates and maintains statistical reports and reports data to Campus Police as necessary to comply with Clery Act reporting guidelines. Analyze data to generate insights and recommendations for enhancing student conduct efforts and informing decision-making. Student Support and Advocacy Co-chair the University Care Team Serve as an advocate and resource for students, providing support and guidance on personal, academic, and social matters. Collaborate with campus resources, such as counseling services, and student support services, to provide support and resources to students facing challenges or crises. Address student concerns and grievances, working to resolve conflicts and promote a positive campus climate conducive to student success. Crisis Management and Emergency Response Coordinate with campus police, essential staff and local authorities, to address emergencies and critical incidents affecting the campus community. Provide support and assistance to students affected by crises or traumatic events, coordinating resources and services as needed. Serves in an Administrator On-Call rotation and responds to crisis-related situations after-hours, including navigating high-level issues of physical and psychological safety. Administrative Leadership Develop and manage the budgets for Campus and Residential Life programs and initiatives, ensuring responsible stewardship of financial resources. Seek alternative funding sources, such as grants and sponsorships, to support innovative programs and initiatives that enhance the student experience. Advocate for student voices in institutional decision-making processes. Represent the Division of Student Affairs on campus committees and at external events and conferences. Qualifications Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, housing, or campus life. Strong knowledge of student development theory, leadership education, and residential education best practices. Experience supervising professional staff and managing budgets. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and crisis management skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with student conduct, Title IX processes, or behavioral intervention. Familiarity with conduct and case management software and student engagement platforms.
