Director of Instructional Coaching About Launch Launch EL Charter School is part of a network of 14 EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) and NYC Outward Bound schools, and is the NYC network’s first charter school. EL Education is a nationally recognized model implemented in over 150 district, charter, and independent schools. Launch’s mission is to prepare students in under-resourced communities to thrive in college and careers by providing an education rooted in active learning experiences and powerful character development. Our vision of achievement has three equally important dimensions: + Mastery of Knowledge and Skills + High-Quality Work + Character Position Overview Launch is seeking a Director of Instructional Coaching for Equity and Impact with a strong track record of developing teacher practice and improving student outcomes. This role is ideal for a highly motivated instructional leader who is committed to equity, grounded in data-driven practice, and passionate about EL Education’s belief that learning should be challenging, active, meaningful, character-driven, and public . The Director will lead Launch’s instructional coaching program, develop staff across content areas, and manage key systems that drive instructional improvement and equity.

Use every moment to improve and reflect You believe: + All students can achieve at high levels + Families are essential partners in student success + Ongoing feedback strengthens both teaching and leadership + Equity and culturally relevant practices are essential to high-quality instruction Role Responsibilities Domain 1: Instructional Leadership Instructional Coaching & Feedback Cycles + Coach a portfolio of teachers, including department chairs, in high-impact, culturally responsive instructional practices + Conduct regular non-evaluative classroom walkthroughs + Provide actionable, weekly feedback aligned to EL practices and Launch’s instructional vision + Model lessons, co-teach, and support planning for special populations (SPED, ELL) Coaching Systems & Structures + Lead and refine an equity-centered coaching vision in partnership with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) Set coaching goals, monitor progress through inquiry cycles, and support teacher development through structured planning and feedback + Develop and lead select weekly planning meetings, lesson internalizations, and case study planning sessions Inquiry Cycles & Data Use + Design and manage department-level inquiry cycles aligned to schoolwide academic priorities + Lead the development and implementation of systems to collect and analyze data for improvement cycles + Guide teacher teams in analyzing data from formative assessments, SEA exit tickets, and student work + Partner with department chairs to design reteach and acceleration plans Professional Development & Leadership Development + Develop department chairs as instructional leaders and coaches + Review and provide feedback on content team agendas and teacher-led PD + Design and lead PD sessions aligned with Launch’s workplan goals and EL Education principles + Attend and apply learning from EL and external PD opportunities to strengthen schoolwide practice Schoolwide Leadership & Collaboration + Participate actively in ILT, Management Team meetings, and EL Credentialing efforts + Collaborate with the AP of Special Populations to ensure effective instruction and compliance for SPED, ELL, and 504 students Support alignment of instructional practices across content areas, ensuring rigor, student engagement, and culturally relevant pedagogy Domain 2: Leadership Visibility & Relationship Building Modeling Core Values + Publicly and consistently model Launch’s Habits of Responsibility + Build a culture of trust, investment, and collective ownership among teachers + Prioritize student safety and community care in all interactions Family, Community & Staff Engagement + Attend and participate in major school events (SLCs, Passages, New Family Night, Black History Month, etc.) + Attend select parent meetings, board meetings, and student recruitment events + Engage with families during conferences and support community-building activities (Career Day, Literacy Night, etc.) + Hold bi-weekly check-ins with department chairs and support strategic initiatives with the Head of School and APs Qualifications + 5+ years of successful teaching experience in middle school classrooms, preferably in under-resourced communities + Demonstrated success as an instructional coach, department chair, or instructional leader + Strong foundation in culturally responsive pedagogy and equity-focused practices + Deep knowledge of curriculum planning, lesson design, and assessment + Experience using data systems to drive instruction and coaching (e.g., SEA, ALMA, Kickboard, i-Ready) + Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership required Unwavering commitment to Launch’s mission and EL Education principles + Exceptional ability to collaborate, build relationships, and model professionalism Compensation & Benefits + Competitive salary, commensurate with experience + 12-month position with paid time off and school holidays + Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plan options + Ongoing professional development and leadership growth opportunities Launch EL Charter School is an equal opportunity employer.
