OVERALL PURPOSE
The Director of Elementary Curriculum is responsible for strategically developing, implementing, and evaluating the elementary (Grades K-6) instructional program. This role ensures that all curriculum initiatives align with state standards, district goals, and current educational best practices. The Director works collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, and other district staff to enhance student learning and improve academic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Leadership Design, evaluate, and revise elementary curricula to ensure alignment with state standards and district academic goals.
Provide leadership in the selection and adoption of instructional materials and resources.
Guide the vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across grade levels and content areas.
Oversee the implementation of district-wide instructional initiatives and academic programs. Instructional Support Provide professional development to elementary teachers and instructional leaders on effective instructional strategies, differentiation, and data-driven practices.
Collaborate with principals and instructional coaches to improve teaching practices and student achievement.
Analyze assessment data to identify areas of need and develop targeted instructional responses.
Leadership and Collaboration
Serve as district-level coordinator for Media Specialists, fostering vertical alignment and supporting school-based initiatives.
Meet quarterly with Media Specialists to discuss needs and plan professional development.
Collaborate with technology staff to prepare for Georgia Milestones and other initiatives.
Promote teamwork within the Instructional Services team.
Work closely with the Curriculum and Instruction team to develop and implement a plan that transforms teaching and learning. Program Management Supervise and support the development and implementation of the elementary school’s literacy, math, science, and social studies programs.
Lead district committees and task forces focused on curriculum and instruction.
Manage curriculum budgets and grant-funded initiatives related to elementary education. Leadership and Collaboration Serve as district-level coordinator for Media Specialists, fostering vertical alignment and supporting school-based initiatives.
Meet quarterly with Media Specialists to discuss needs and plan professional development.
Collaborate with technology staff to prepare for Georgia Milestones and other initiatives.
Promote teamwork within the Instructional Services team.
Work closely with the Curriculum and Instruction team to develop and implement a plan that transforms teaching and learning.
Communicate curricular expectations, changes, and resources to staff and families.
Serve as a liaison between schools, central office departments, and external stakeholders regarding elementary curriculum matters.
Represent the district at local, regional, and state curriculum events or advisory groups. Technology Systems and Resources Research and explore emerging instructional technologies for integration into teaching and learning.
Provide guidance for pilot programs and recommend software and resources to enhance instruction and learning.
Respond to staff inquiries with information, guidance, or referrals.
Assist in maintaining the district website, employee Intranet, and instructional technology website with up-to-date resources and announcements.
Support technology systems management, including platforms like Google Admin Console and Clever Admin.
Oversee projects and program components to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
Assist building leaders with technology-related instructional purposes. Gifted Coordinator Lead professional development for gifted-endorsed teachers in the district
Monitor compliance with GaDOE Gifted Manual and Procedures for Referral, Eligibility, and Continued Service
Assist in monitoring, scheduling, and programming opportunities to maximize gifted course offerings and funding
Meet regularly with school-level gifted coordinators to discuss needs
Assist with planning the budgetary needs of the K-12 gifted program. Promote gifted education throughout the year and during Gifted Education Month. Perform classroom observations to monitor gifted instruction and provide coaching and feedback.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Master’s degree or higher in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Valid teaching certificate and administrative certification (preferred or as required by the state).
Minimum 5 years of successful experience in elementary education, including teaching and instructional leadership roles. Knowledge and Skills Deep understanding of early childhood and elementary pedagogy.
Expertise in curriculum design, instructional frameworks, and assessment literacy.
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyze data to inform instructional decision-making.
Proficiency with technology integration and digital learning tools. Professional Integrity Display professional integrity and maintain confidentiality.
Follow district policies regarding job requirements, work hours, vacation, and absence procedures.
Perform all related duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 10% walking, and 20% standing.
EVALUATION
The Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction K-12 will evaluate the performance of this position and its responsibilities at least annually, in accordance with the provisions of Board policies for evaluations.
