The Program Director, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school. The successful candidate will create an environment in which all teachers, therapists and direct care staff feel valued and empowered to collaborate in support of our students needs. The Program Director, through oversight of program level Administrators, health services and therapy team leads and other educational leaders, will provide a safe and supportive environment for both students and staff, will lead professional development initiatives, have primary responsibility for all Curriculum and Instruction and work closely with other senior executives to further the strategic initiatives of the school. The Program Director will demonstrate a passion for Cotting Schools mission and its commitment to providing outstanding educational and support services to children with a broad spectrum of learning disabilities, communication impairments, physical challenges and complex medical conditions. The Program Director will work collaboratively with senior management to provide clear, calm and consistent leadership to all Cotting constituents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Build a community of belonging, in which the significance of each student is valued and the work of each staff member is appreciated and respected by providing consistent and calm onsite leadership and support for staff decision-making.
Foster an environment in which all Cotting staff hold themselves to high quality standards and work as a team to effectively integrate academic and therapeutic services to meet the individual needs of our students. This involves balancing the needs and demands for both classroom and therapy services and inviting regular coordination and collaboration between members of the clinical teams and care teams.
Provide continuous supervision, feedback and support for all classroom teachers, specialists, therapists, health services and other direct care staff either directly or in support of other program level supervisors. This includes holding regular meetings (individual and group) and observing all teachers in classrooms and other teaching settings. This also involves identifying appropriate professional development and training for teachers and other staff members.
Encourage collaboration, partnership and innovation to position Cotting School as a leader in quality, innovative services focused on the highly specialized needs of the children, young adults and families in our greater community. Ensure the safety and appropriate supervision for all students, which may involve coordinating classroom coverage, assisting with supervision, feeding and personal care, and/or working directly with students individually or in small groups. Support the Director of Admissions on individual admissions decisions, establishing appropriate Admissions goals, criteria and processes, and developing strategies to attract new students at all levels of the Program. Contributing to a dynamic teaching and learning environment focused on the classroom and beyond, this position will help to identify effective models for professional development that support the broad spectrum of development needs across Cottings multidisciplinary staff. Provide support and oversight to Cotting Schools supplemental services programs, which include after school activities, student-centered social functions, school trips and other activities and events that contribute to a full and enriching student experience. Guide a long-term initiative to define, evaluate and expand the Transition Services offered to all students. In collaboration with the Cotting Transition Institute Director, build a solid continuum of transition-oriented education and programming for staff, students and families. Work collaboratively with other Senior Administrators and the Human Resources Director to build robust opportunities for our Program Assistants as well as a facilitated pipeline that supports new teacher recruiting and development. Serve as a resource to the parents of current and prospective students to collect feedback, address concerns, answer questions and resolve issues. Oversee the work of the 766 Office to maintain the educational program in compliance with the State Department of Education regulations to provide for the continued approval of the program under Chapter 766 and other regulations as they may apply.
Participate in IEP teams/meetings as assigned as well as facilitate regular student-centered multi-disciplinary team updates. Work with the CFO, members of the Senior Administrative team, and faculty to build a budget that provides for ongoing operations, supports faculty recruitment and retention, and advances our work with students. Work with our development office to develop foundation proposals seeking funding to support Cottings specialized educational programs and services.
Other projects and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Chief Executive Officer.
