Description The Program Manager, Student Innovation is a full-time, 12-month professional staff position. The Program Manager reports to the Director of the Office of Innovation and supports the Director in overseeing all aspects of student engagement, including recruitment, strategy, and program development. The Program Manager plays a critical role in the strategic growth of innovation at UNE and will be part of a team identifying how to establish a culture of student innovation, piloting programs and strategies to build that culture over time. Responsibilities Conducts outreach and recruitment activities to build student innovation teams and innovation fellows programs.
Expands student innovation programming and provides oversight to students engaged in campus-based, local community, regional, and potentially national and international innovation initiatives.
Mentors students across UNE campuses in the skills and mindsets of innovation. In collaboration with the Makerspace Coordinator, helps teach the concepts of design thinking and a mindset of innovation, prototyping new workshops, classes, and experiences. Designs and develops a suite of programs that scale student engagement in innovation.
In collaboration with the Director, represents the Office of Innovation and its mission and vision to external stakeholders. Participates in strategic planning and design of student-facing innovation initiatives. In collaboration with the Director and Makerspace Coordinator, assists in the development of policies and procedures as it related to student engagement.
Develops and manages a network and programming to engage alumni fellows and leverage their expertise as mentors.
Supports the Maine Idea Challenge, Entrepreneurship in Residence, Innovation Showcase, and other initiatives and events.
Provides administrative support to Director as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
Previous training in or experience with design thinking, agile development, diverse employers/internships, experiential learning/overseas learning, participation in innovation projects or challenges. Experience running student programs. Projects that demonstrate a high degree of creativity and originality. Previous leadership experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills, including an ability to develop new programs and strategic plans.
Familiarity with innovation methodologies such as design thinking, lean startup and/or agile development.
Experience with prototyping and developing creative solutions to complex problems.
Experience working with and leading students at the university level. Experience developing innovative student-centered projects at the college level.
Willingness to learn new technologies and skills. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with ability to interact with diverse internal and external constituents, including both students and VIPs.
Familiarity with or willingness to learn the tools and equipment of the Makerspace, including laser cutters, 3D printers, woodworking machines and other prototyping tools.
