Director of Secondary Education
QUALIFICATIONS
: Masters Degree in Administration/Supervision or in a high school subject-area discipline from an accredited four year college or university; or, Certification as a Curriculum Instructional Specialist, preferred; Knowledge of NC Standard Course of Study (Curriculum and Career Technical Education); Minimum of five years of proven, successful administrative experience in secondary education; Excellent writing, oral and human relations skills.

Deputy Superintendent & Chief Academic Officer
JOB GOAL
To provide strategic leadership, coordination, and supervision of secondary education and instructional programs, including virtual learning, with a focus on improving student achievement and ensuring equitable access to high-quality instruction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of secondary education, including instructional programming, curriculum development, and Career and Technical Education (CTE); Oversee and support the implementation and monitoring of virtual learning initiatives and platforms at the secondary level to ensure access, equity, and instructional quality; Collaborate with secondary principals, instructional coaches, and district-level staff to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with state standards and district goals; Provide data-driven consultation and support for school improvement efforts, including active participation on School Improvement Teams and assistance in developing comprehensive school improvement plans; Monitor and analyze academic performance data, including disaggregated sub-group results, to inform instructional strategies and interventions; Facilitate partnerships with institutions of higher education, particularly local community colleges, to expand college and career readiness opportunities for secondary students; Support teachers in the development and implementation of local instructional plans, lesson designs, and assessments aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study and CTE course blueprints; Promote and support competency-based, individualized instructional approaches that address diverse learner needs; Serve as a mentor and instructional resource for teachers, providing guidance in the selection and effective use of curriculum materials and technology tools; Lead professional learning communities and professional development initiatives related to curriculum alignment, instructional design, and virtual teaching and learning; Collaborate with Human Resources and the Superintendent to support and evaluate school-based administrators within the assigned grade span; Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY:
Edgecombe County Public Schools Certified Directors’ Salary Schedule, plus local supplement.
