The AIG Specialist is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s AIG program across all schools (grades K-12) in accordance with North Carolina’s AIG Program Standards and Article 9B legislation. This role involves collaborating with administrators, educators, and families to provide equitable, high-quality services for gifted learners.

Bachelor’s Degree in

Education Licensure:

Valid North Carolina teaching license with Gifted Education add-on

Experience:

Minimum of three years of teaching experience, with at least one year teaching gifted students

Skills:

Deep understanding of NC AIG Program Standards, Article 9B legislation, and best practices in gifted education In-depth knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study and instructional pedagogy Strong leadership, organizational, time management, and communication skills Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional decisions Proficiency in differentiation strategies Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to serve students and teachers across the district

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership and Compliance Oversee and implement the district’s AIG plan with fidelity, ensuring alignment with the NC AIG Program Standards. Serve on the district AIG Leadership Team to guide implementation of the district AIG plan and support continuous program improvement across all schools. Ensure compliance with state guidelines and submit reports and updates as needed. Identification and Service Delivery Oversee district-wide identification, screening, and placement processes in adherence to the district AIG Plan and best practices. Ensure equitable access to services for all eligible students across all schools in the district. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure differentiated instruction, enrichment, and acceleration opportunities are in place for AIG students. Provide small group or individualized instruction to AIG students within the classroom or in pull-out settings. Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development Assist teachers with modifying existing curriculum materials to meet the advanced needs of AIG students. Provide guidance and support to teachers on how to differentiate instruction and create engaging learning experiences for AIG students. Design and facilitate ongoing professional development focused on effective strategies for gifted education. Recruit and support educators working toward AIG licensure. Family & Community Engagement Maintain open and effective communication with families about identification, services, and programming. Promote awareness and understanding of gifted education across the district and community. Program Evaluation and Accountability Collect and analyze data to evaluate service effectiveness, equity of access, and student growth. Use data to drive continuous improvement of services and practices. Participate in local, regional, and state AIG networks to stay current on policy, trends, and research. Ensure compliance with Article 9B legislation and prepare necessary reports for DPI.
