Primary Role:
TMSA is seeking a dynamic, highly skilled District English Department Coordinator to lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum across all TMSA campuses (K-12) that aligns with NC standards, supports data-driven instruction, and integrates character development and culturally responsive pedagogy. This instructional leader will play a pivotal role in shaping ELA instruction, coaching teachers, supporting school leadership, analyzing data, and driving student achievement in Reading and Grammar throughout the district. This position requires frequent travel between TMSA campuses located in Cary/Apex, Greensboro, and Charlotte. Candidates must be able to travel weekly and manage a flexible schedule.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field. Valid NC teaching license in ELA or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in English Language Arts. Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, coaching, or instructional support. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly between campuses.
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, or Educational Leadership. Experience with charter schools, STEAM integration, or project-based learning. Experience leading professional development and PLCs. Familiarity with assessment platforms like NWEA MAP, IXL, etc.
Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Curriculum and Instructional Leadership Develop, refine, and manage a rigorous, vertically aligned ELA curriculum across grade levels. Ensure alignment with North Carolina state standards, national best practices, and TMSA’s STEAM-integrated instructional vision. Collaborate with school administrators and instructional coaches to support high-quality, standards-based instruction. Guide schools in implementing effective reading and writing strategies that promote literacy growth for all students. Teacher Support and Development Provide professional development and coaching to ELA teachers across the district. Model and co-teach lessons, provide feedback and help build teacher capacity. Develop and facilitate PLCs focused on curriculum design, lesson planning, and assessment literacy. Support new teacher onboarding in the ELA department. Data-Driven Practices Use formative and summative assessment data (e.g., MAP, EOG, EOC, and benchmarks) to identify trends, set goals, and drive instructional improvement. Collaborate with principals and academic teams to develop intervention strategies and monitor student progress. Leadership and Collaboration Serve as the primary liaison between the district and school-level ELA teams. Collaborate with department coordinators across content areas to promote interdisciplinary learning. Promote the integration of character education, social-emotional learning, and culturally responsive teaching into ELA instruction. Support the implementation of Leader in Me and other district-wide initiatives that impact literacy and student growth. Coordinate the planning, promotion, and execution of School-Level and District-Level Spelling Bee Competitions, ensuring student engagement, fair processes, and alignment with national standards and eligibility requirements.
