The Role
Prospect Schools is seeking a mission-aligned, equity-driven K-1 Director to support excellence in early childhood teaching and learning at our Downtown Elementary School campus. This individual will report directly to the Principal and focus on coaching and developing teachers in kindergarten and 1st grade—ensuring developmentally appropriate, joyful, and rigorous instruction that supports all learners.
This is a school-based, full-time, in-person role at our Downtown Brooklyn Elementary School.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Coaching
Lead high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction across K-1 classrooms
Provide job-embedded coaching, feedback, and professional development to K-1 teachers
Observe classroom instruction regularly and co-create support plans based on instructional needs
Analyze student academic and social-emotional data to inform action plans that improve student outcomes
Support the implementation of foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional practices aligned with Prospect’s instructional vision
School Culture & Team Collaboration
Model and uphold high expectations for instruction, classroom culture, and equity in early childhood classrooms
Partner with school leaders to promote teacher retention, professional development, and a joyful learning environment
Participate in and help lead school events, family engagement activities, and grade-level planning structures
Serve as a thought partner to the Principal on matters related to early childhood instruction and K-1 team development
Candidate Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
At least 5 years of experience in education, including lead teaching experience in early elementary or early childhood
1-2 years of instructional leadership or coaching experience
Strong understanding of early childhood pedagogy and best practices
Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, and the success of all learners
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Salary
Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is $108,000 to $119,212.
