Job Description The Associate Director of Student Employment (CuseWorks) oversees the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive training and development program for student employees. Reporting to the Director of Student Employment, this role ensures compliance with health, safety, and professional development training while equipping students with career readiness skills. Additionally, the Associate Director manages key operational tasks to maintain a seamless experience for student workers across campus.
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree required.
Five (5+) years of progressive experience in higher education, financial aid, human resources, or a related field.
Skills and Knowledge Three (3+) years of experience and proven ability in designing, developing, and evaluating impactful training programs that foster growth and development.
Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
Exceptional skills and proven experience identifying systems and technology to improve processes.
Strong, proven project management skills, with a continuous focus on process optimization and driving organizational improvements.
Expertise in higher education systems, financial aid, with a specialized focus on Federal Work-Study regulations.
Comprehensive understanding of international student work regulations, particularly F-1 and J-1 visa requirements.
Extensive experience with I-9 regulations and work authorization processes, ensuring full compliance.
A deep commitment to student service, consistently demonstrating a proactive approach to meeting student needs and enhancing their experience.
Advanced problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for identifying and addressing potential issues before they arise, effectively managing by prevention.
Demonstrated success in independently managing office operations, ensuring efficiency, organization, and a high standard of service delivery.
Responsibilities Based on needs analysis and compliance requirements, identify training and development for both bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit student employees.
Design, develop and present online and in-person training, create a certification and tracking system to measure learning outcomes, attendance, and compliance.
Create and maintain a website/portal for all compliance and skills-development training to be accessed by over 6000 student employees.
Collaborate with Career Services team members and other stakeholders to help identify professional development opportunities.
Work with the Student Employment director and other campus partners to assess how well student employees are learning new skills and shared competencies.
Partner with Academic Programs to develop assessment and analyze outcomes.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and leverage technology to streamline operations, enhance services, and increase efficiency: potential improvements include implementing a new student employee performance management system (both probationary and annual reviews), enhancing the online I-9 system, and optimizing hiring and onboarding processes for over 6000 hourly student employees and graduate assistants across 9,000 jobs.
Create and oversee hiring process for student employees, including generating and tracking job offers, managing background checks (when applicable), FERPA compliance, onboarding, probationary reviews and annual performance evaluations.
Create a system to manage and track student employee personnel data.
Assist student employees, families, and graduate assistants with financial aid and job-related questions/issues, including (but not limited to) Federal Work-Study, onboarding, I-9s, compensation, and international visa regulations.
Partner with supervisors, hiring managers, Human Resources, Payroll, Graduate School, and International Services to quickly and effectively resolve issues.
In the absence of the Director, assist with employee relations issues; recommend additional action, partner with appropriate unit as needed: HR Labor Relations, Office of Community Standards, Title IX, and Financial Aid.
Assist in managing day-to-day operations: financial aid inquiries, emails, student inquiries, supervision, and management of the online I-9 system.
Post and approve student jobs and tag jobs with appropriate University Shared Competencies. Partner with Career Services in creating reports to measure job trends, applicant tracking, and shared competencies utilization.
