Midlands Technical College is seeking a collaborative and innovative leader to serve as the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success & Retention, the Director provides strategic leadership for a college-wide center focused on advancing teaching and learning practices that promote student engagement, retention, and academic achievement. The CTE supports faculty and staff who contribute to instructional delivery, training, and student support efforts across the institution. Through professional development, instructional support, and cross-functional collaboration, the Director ensures that the CTE remains a vital resource for developing effective and engaging learning environments aligned with the college’s mission and goals for student success and retention.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Planning, Coordination, and Evaluation:

Leads the design, coordination, and continuous improvement of college-wide professional development and teaching and learning initiatives that support student success and retention. Develops and delivers programming that enhances instructional quality, learner engagement, and effective teaching practices for both faculty and staff. Collaborates with departments across the college to ensure that CTE offerings meet evolving instructional and training needs. Regularly assesses the impact of CTE programs and uses data to inform future planning and ensure high standards of quality and relevance.

Vision and Strategic Leadership:

Provides collaborative leadership and long-term vision for the Center for Teaching Excellence in alignment with the college’s mission and student success priorities. Champions innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies that serve both faculty and staff. Partners with institutional leaders to support strategic initiatives that enhance engagement, retention, and positive outcomes for all students.

Center Operations and Staff Supervision:

Oversees the daily operations of the Center for Teaching Excellence, including budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, and resource management. Supervises and supports CTE staff, fostering a collaborative and high­ performing team environment. Provides ongoing professional development, coaching, and evaluation to ensure staff are well-equipped to support teaching and learning initiatives. Ensures that the CTE maintains responsive and well-coordinated services to meet the needs of diverse college stakeholders.

Communication and Collaboration:

Serves as a central point of contact for promoting CTE programs and services across the college. Shares timely and relevant information about current trends, best practices, and resources in teaching and learning. Builds strong working relationships with internal partner including academic departments and student support services such as advising, academic coaching, and life skills development-to align professional development offerings with institutional goals. This position is located primarily on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Master’s Degree plus 5 years of progressively responsible related work experience. At least 3 years of college teaching experience, including both face

  • to•face and online courses.

At least 3 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies. Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience leading a center for teaching and learning or a comparable professional development unit in a higher education setting. A strong background in instructional design and curriculum development is highly desirable, along with demonstrated experience in the design, development, and evaluation of open educational resources (OER). The candidate should have a proven ability to lead and assess college-wide professional development initiatives, particularly those that contribute to improved instructional practices and student outcomes. Experience using assessment data to guide decision-making, familiarity with current educational technologies and learning management systems, and an understanding of emerging trends in teaching and learning in higher education are also preferred.
