Job Description:
Purpose & Scope:
The Kindergarten-2nd Grade Instructional Coach at Southern Avenue Charter School is a critical leadership role focused on improving instructional quality and student achievement in early elementary grades. This position is responsible for supporting teachers in delivering effective instruction across all core content areas—Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies—through coaching, co-teaching, professional development, and data-driven instructional planning. The Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with the school leadership team to ensure all students, regardless of background or ability, are provided rigorous and engaging instruction in a warm and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a mentor and instructional leader to K-2 teachers across subjects. Conduct regular classroom observations and provide targeted feedback. Co-plan and co-teach lessons to model best practices in pedagogy and differentiation. Facilitate professional development aligned to school goals and student data. Lead data meetings and support teachers in analyzing assessment data to inform instruction. Collaborate with the school leadership team to monitor curriculum implementation and ensure alignment to Tennessee state standards. Support the integration of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices. Assist with intervention and enrichment planning for struggling and advanced learners. Promote and reinforce a positive, achievement-focused school culture.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferably in Education (or Master’s preferred). Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsements. Minimum 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in early elementary (K-2). Proven track record of increasing student achievement. Prior coaching, mentoring, or teacher leadership experience strongly preferred. Deep understanding of early childhood pedagogy and developmentally appropriate practices. Strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy frameworks (e.g., Guided Reading, Phonics, Math Fact Fluency). Skilled in using student data to drive instruction. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
