To teach the process of film production, directing, editing, and screenwriting, to high school students

SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
The Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) is a partially residential, competitively admitted, public school dedicated to providing gifted and talented high school and middle school students intensive instruction in one of six dedicated specialty areas: Creative Writing, Dance, Math/Science, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts. Students also receive superior college-prep instruction in academic core subjects.
Performance Responsibilities:
Teach a range of courses in digital filmmaking/video production, film directing, editing, and/or screenwriting to high school students Responsible for guiding students towards meaningful projects and evaluating their work Work in conjunction with specialty departments to supplement specialty curriculum Work with VP of Specialty & Academic Studies, Academic Support Coordinator, and Media Arts Coordinator to develop and offer filmmaking electives for all students across specialty departments, within the context of a fully articulated film concentration Help advise student film organization (ASFA Studio) in “scramble” events, in producing an annual student film festival, and other related activities Explore possibilities—with VP of Specialty & Academic Studies and Dorothy Jemison Day (DJD) Theater Director, and others—of programming potential film events in the DJD for students and the public Help supervise, maintain and oversee the appropriate use of digital filmmaking equipment and lab space
Required Skills:
Up to date with current trends, tools, and best practices relating to digital storytelling and multimedia projects and ability to maintain that currency of knowledge Experience teaching or working closely with young adults and/or high school students Ability to oversee and help students coordinate all phases of film production (development, pre-production, production, post-production, and distribution) Experience as a successful project manager and ability to organize, prioritize and manage time Strong interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and industry colleagues Knowledge of a range of project-appropriate camera, audio, and lighting options as well as editing programs Preferred Skills (one or more of the following): Demonstrated facility with capturing and manipulating video, sound, and/or related media in production and post-production phases of project development Familiarity and some facility with the Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Audition) Graphic animation experience Secondary interest in and/or ability to teach periodic specialty courses in media-related disciplines (e.g., Theatre Arts, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, etc.)
Qualifications:
Broad academic background including a degree in film or closely related field. Preferred (but not required): o BFA or master’s degree in film or closely related field o 3-5 years of professional experience in field (media/film) o Some full-time teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school setting o Professional experience/secondary interest in other new media and/or media-related disciplines
