The full-time Upper School Theater Teacher fosters an appreciation for the performing arts in grades 7-12. She or he shows an eagerness and prowess for developing students’ skills in a variety of mediums, fostering creativity, and incorporating interdisciplinary concepts that are germane to the school’s mission. Under the direct leadership of the Upper School Head, the Associate Upper School Head, in collaboration with the Discipline Chair, and guided by the Goals & Criteria, he/she will work independently and collaboratively to provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment for all learners.
Responsibilities include:
A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission.
Utilizing cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices.
Participating in reflective, self-directed, ongoing professional development.
Providing instruction on a wide range of age-appropriate theater topics for students in grades 7-12.
Directing and producing the musical and a theater play or show.
Sponsoring Carrollton’s Thespian Troupe, including participation in the District Festival.
Maintaining professional currency with industry standards in the dramatic arts curriculum design, including proficient level pedagogical knowledge of theater for students in the Upper School.
Participating in discussions with the Administrative team and colleagues to establish and build upon student learning, including the promotion of the Theater program to build enthusiasm for the performing arts.
Creating and defining goals and objectives for unit and daily lesson plans, preparing classroom activities, organizing teaching materials, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom records, and managing time effectively.
Submitting grade reports and student comments at specified intervals.
Holding conferences with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals.
Participating in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back-to-school night, admissions showcases, and graduation.
Engaging in curriculum reviews and collaborating on Discipline initiatives.

Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theater, Theater Education, or a related field required; MFA preferred.
At least five years of teaching experience is preferred.

Commitment to ongoing professional growth, including dedication to personal artistic development and relevant professional experience.
Enthusiasm for teaching students of all abilities.
Strong communication skills.
